Fixtures 2013/14

06/05/2013

We have decided to add a few more events to the calendar this Summer - though initially we had decided not to run events in July and August, we have negotiated a rate for The Track at Meydan where we will have one evening match (rolling tee times from 1700) per month from June to September - the exact dates are as follows:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Weds 12th June (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
  • Weds 17th July (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
  • Weds 21st August (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
  • Weds 18th September (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

These events will be priced at Dhs 150 for 18 holes.

\r\n\r\n

We have opened all these matches for registration so that we can gauge the interest and add/reduce slots if necessary.

\r\n\r\n

These matches are in addition to the following Summer dates:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Saturday 11th May at the Els
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 24th May at Tower Links
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 22nd June at the Creek
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 28th September at the Faldo
  • \r\n
  • **NEW**Friday 13th September at the Els
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

The Autumn/Winter schedule then follows with:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Saturday 26th October - EKFC Club Championship at the Creek
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 9th November - Airbus Day at the Ranches
  • \r\n
  • Friday 6th December - OnAir Day 01 at the Earth
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 4th January - EGS New Year Scramble at the Ranches
  • \r\n
  • Friday 24th January - OnAir Day 02 at the Fire
  • \r\n
  • Friday 14th February - Boeing Day at the Earth
  • \r\n
  • March - Captains Day at Sharjah
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

These dates are all confirmed with the Golf Clubs (apart from the Captains Day in March 2014) and where possible, with the sponsors, though please bear in mind that there are always one or two additions and/or changes to the schedule.

\r\n\r\n

Just in case you are wondering. Though we do try and mix up the courses, there are some notable omissions in our calendar - e.g. Al Badia, the Montgomerie and the Majlis. Unfortunately, the former two dont allow Societies to play at weekends and the Majlis price has become too prohibitive (and also very difficult to get an appropriate slot). We also favour shotgun starts at our big sponsored events which further reduces the options - we would like to play the Els more, for example, but they dont allow shotgun starts at the weekends.

We were excited to have Boeing back as one of our key sponsors and, as in previous years, they were extremely generous and put on a great show. Hosted on the Earth course, the weather and conditions were sublime with some groups of players taking full advantage of them.

The format was a 4-man team event, with all net scores counting on par 5s, three scores counting on par 3s and two scores counting on par 3s. Dominic Breach, Shorty Callow, Kevin Howe and Ross Mackie took home the spoils with a combined score of 115 points, 2 points clear of their nearest rivals - Alex Robinson, Hasni Samad, Rosslee Wahid and Rob Tingle. In third place, a further four points adrift on 109 points were the team of Gareth Conley, Neil Lakhani, Mark Burtonwood and Richard Simpson. Nearest the pins were won by Craig Berry (4), Hannah Mannion (6), Tim Collins (17) and Dominic Breach (17). And finally, the 777 Boeing Prizes (three competitions of hole 7) were won by Alex Robinson (nearest to the pin in three shots), Longest putt (Stuart Dall) and Bastian Koster (straightest drive).

Many thanks again to Boeing for a wonderful day out!

Trump International hosted our annual Club Championships this year and due to several Tour players practising here during the week, the course was in stunning and "tour-like" conditions (tough pin placements and speedy greens). This didn\'t stop Seb Hall being crowned the overall Club Champion in a tightly contested match with all players struggling to overcome the difficult set-up. He won with a gross 29 points (78 equivalent) one point clear of second-placed Dominic Breach. The nett division was won by Dr Darryl Atkins scoring an impressive 37 points - his nearest rival, Justin Wee, was a further 4 points adrift.
