Patriotism ruled the day with the GB team displaying their Jacks (including the flag of St.Andrew following the Scots decision to stay in!) and the Rest of the World (RoW) sporting an eclectic mix of kangaroos, shamrocks and cries of \"get in the hole!\";.
The Els course was once again in great condition with the 3/4 handicap stableford 4 ball format throwing up some good scores, not least the 44 points from John McGuiness and Guillermo Gallego and 37 points from Ultan Kenny and EGS ‘rookie’ Gary Morton which were the highest scores from each side.
The trophy was eventually handed over to RoW captain Shorty callow for a resounding 19 point victory and we retired to our sofas to watch how it should be done in the real thing. Congrats to the RoW team and to the real European team for 2 great Ryder Cups.
Dear All,
\r\n\r\nThis weeks event will be a Ryder Cup event - Great Britain vs the Rest of the World. Steve Allen will captain the GB team and Shorty Callow will captain the RoW team. The winning Captain will be presented a cup at the end of the match.
\r\n\r\nEach pair will contribute in a two-ball better-ball stableford format, 3/4 handicap. The difference in points in the competing 2-balls will be added to the total team score for each team (so every point counts). There will also be nearest pins as normal, and best pair score from each team. As an added incentive - the losing pair buys the first round for the winning pair. :)
\r\n\r\nCould you try your best to dress in the following team colours:
\r\n\r\nGB: Red shirts, beige/light colour shorts and white/light colour caps.
\r\nRoW: White shirts, blue/dark colour shorts and blue/dark colour caps.

Emirates sent two teams to the annual ASCA inter-Airline scratch golf tournament. Emirates ‘A’ consisted of David Storey, John McGuinness, Paul Nightingale, Tony Benecke, Guillermo Gallego and Steve Allen. Emirates Team ‘B’ comprised of Paul Stump, Mazen Qursha, Shorty Callow, Stephen Holl, Brendon O’Connor and Ultan Kenny.
Though there were some initial doubts, all braved the Barabunga eruption and unfamiliar weather to challenge for the Cup. Playing in a unique location amongst lava rock and deep heather the Emirates ‘A’ team led after the day 1 pairs with John McGuiness and Guillermo Gallego carding 36 points and Paul Nightingale and Dave Storey 32 points. With Icelandair only 6 points back nothing was certain going into the singles on day 2. However, once again Dave led the way with 31 points and together with John, Guillermo and Tony Benecke Emirates Team ‘A’ secured a 7 point overall victory.
This is first time Emirates has won the ASCA event. The team will be defending their title next year in Ireland.
Congratulations to Dave Storey who shot a stunning 2-under par gross 70 to win this week’s Summer Series with a total of 39 points in very difficult conditions. Fellow scratch golfer John McGuinness also managed to shoot a level par round and came second on 36 points. Following close behind was Mike Belt on 35 points.
Nearest the pins were won by Dean Moss (2), Nick Posada (7), Martin Mahoney (12) and Dave Storey (17).
The winner of the summer series consists of the best two of the four scores through the summer. If there is a tie, the most recent of the two counting scores counts. If we still have a tie, the third score counts. Currently, the top ten stands as:
1: PAUL NIGHTINGALE (68)
2: TIM HARFORD (67)
3: TIM COLLINS (67)
4: DEAN MOSS (66)
5: JAMES SKERRITT (64)

7: RUPENDRA CHHENTRI (62)
8: PETER BOYLAN (62)
9: NICOLAS POSADA (62)
10: ULTAN KENNY (61)
Below is the draw for this week’s event at the Arabian Ranches. It is the third game of a four event series where the winner is the player with the cumulative best two of four scores - where there is a tie, the most recent of the two high scores is taken.
