Congratulations to both Dean Moss and Peter Dally who won their respective divisions and secured the two Xbox 360s that were generously donated from our sponsor of the Al Badia Summer Challenge, Microsoft. Dean carded a final round 39 points at Al Badia, which not only won the day's event but also leapfrogged him to the top of the Division 1 category - his second highest score of 34 points meant a combined total of 73 points, 2 points clear from Ted Green his nearest rival. Peter Dally scored an even more impressive total of 76 points which were accumulated in his first two games - his nearest rival was Pete Lindsay on 69 points.
Other winners winners on the day were Noel Connolly (35 points) and Ryan Carter (33 points) who were Dean's closest rivals on the day. The "Nearest-the-Pin" prizes went to Kader "(should've been a hole in one!)" Tazerout and Wayne Classen.
To round-off an already exciting day , second-placed Noel Connolly joined Dean and Peter in being the recipient of an Xbox 360, which he won in a special raffle draw that was conducted during the prize giving ceremony!
Below is the draw for the final round of the Microsoft-sponsored Al Badia Summer Challenge, taking place this Friday (25th September). As indicated in an earlier email, the event is an individual stableford and costs AED 335/- which includes green fees, range balls, cart, prizes and sandwiches/soft drinks at the prize giving ceremony afterwards. Please note that this week, it is anew afternoon shotgun-start at 1330.

Below is an update and results from the last two events (Jebel Ali and the 2nd round of the Al Badia / Microsoft Summer Challenge).
Jebel Ali: Saturday 5th Sep
Although there was a small turnout, some great golf was played with Pete Lindsay taking the spoils with a great score of 40 points! Close on his heels were two relatively new members: Steve Allen with 38 points and Ryan Carter on 34 points. Mike Wells and Jason Kendall took the "Nearest the Pin" prizes. Please note that the prize giving will be done at the next event at Al Badia on 25th September.
Al Badia: Saturday 25th July
This was the second round of the Microsoft-sponsored Summer Challenge at Al Badia, and at stake are some lovely Xboxs together, with the latest Tiger Woods 2010 game, which according to my sources is "awesome"! The overall event was won by another Pete - this time it was Peter Dally who won with 40 points, another great achievement given the summer heat. This puts Pete in a very good position to win the Division 2 category, although there are others snapping at his heels. Paul Nightingale came a close second with 39 points and again this puts him in an excellent position in the Division 1 category. Last, but not least, one of our guests on the day, Paul Fisher, who came a close third with 37 points. The "Nearest the Pin" prizes went to Paul Fisher and Roger Duthie.
Registration is now open for the final round of the Microsoft-sponsored Summer Challenge at Al Badia and one good round from any player could be enough to win the spoils. Details of the event are:
Date: Saturday 25th September
Time: 1230 rolling start, (however we are trying to get a 1300 shotgun start arranged)
Venue: Al Badia
Price: AED 350/-
We will be having the main prize-giving directly after the event and cold drinks and sandwiches will be being served. All prizes from the previous four events will be handed out also. You will also be pleased to know that even if you haven't won an Xbox through your golfing prowess, there will be another opportunity as we will be having a small raffle during the prize ceremony to win one (together with the Tiger Woods game)!

The cost is AED 350/-, which includes green fees, carts, range balls and prizes (to be given out at the final event of the Summer Series in September). As discussed previously, the format is an individual stableford - the winner of the "Summer Series" is the member who has the two best scores over the three events.
- Each event is to be held at the Four Seasons Course (Al Badia) and will cost not more than AED 350 /- per person. (Note, only \"fully-paid\" members of the Society will be allowed to register for the events).
- Dates of the events are: (1) Friday 19th June, 0700 rolling start. (2) Saturday 25th July, 0700 rolling start. (3) Friday 25th September, 1230 rolling start.
- The series takes place over three events where the final winning score will be taken from the best two stableford scores over the three match series (i.e. the two best scorecards out of three count). If you only play in two events, then these two scores will count towards your total.
- Where there is a tie, the most recent scorecard will be taken; if this is the same then the best back 9 of the most recent card will be the deciding factor, and so on.
- Microsoft have provided some fantastic prizes: 3 Xboxs with the latest Tiger Woods game (2010) - this game is yet to be released to the general public. The prizes will be distributed between two categories: Cat 1 (Handicaps of 0 - 14) and Cat 2 (Handicaps of 15 and above). The third Xbox will be raffled at the presentation after the last match - raffle tickets for this will be sold at the prize ceremony. (Note: based on the high stableford scores at Sharjah we are reviewing the handicaps of Society members - watch this space for further details....)
- There will be small prizes given for winners of the individual events.
The first game of the Microsoft / Four Seasons Summer Series is now open for registration.
