We would like to ascertain the interest in a weekend of Golf in May which is being organised by our colleagues in Cyprus. Exact details are shown in the message below, and the cost excluding flights will be around 1000AED:

The idea is to organise a Golf Tournament in Cyprus specifically for EK group staff. I have already made initial enquiries with the best Golf club on the island \" Aphrodite Hills\" at the Intercontinental Hotel situated between Limassol and Paphos. I must say that the Club has taken a liking to this idea and they have given me a very attractive package.

My idea is to get as many Golfers from around our network to meet up in Cyprus and enjoy 1 afternoon and 1 morning of Golf in a top notch Golf Course set in beautiful surroundings with added facilities such as a hotel, restaurants, shops and spa.

The way the flight schedule to LCA is set makes this idea even more possible. Golfers will arrive in LCA airport on Friday 08th 22nd May at 11.15hrs (-please note change of date). I anticipate that we can be on the Golf course by 2.30pm maximum 3.00pm. The transfer from the airport to the hotel is of approx one and half hours. Due to the late sunset this will enable us to play a good 4 hours of golf. The second round will be played on Saturday morning followed by lunch and the presentation. The flight back to DXB departs LCA at 20.10hrs giving us ample time. Flights are still wide open for standby staff and I do not envisage any problems.

The Package price of Euro228 per person includes the following when sharing a double/twin room. In case of use of single room the total package is Euro312 per person..
  • 2 x green fees including buggy.
  • 1 night stay at the Intercontinental Hotel
  • 1 buffet lunch at the Clubhouse
  • Prizes for the trophy presentation
  • 2 tokens (2 x 42 golf balls) to practice on the driving range.
  • 2 x 2 bottles of water on the buggy
  • Seat on coach transfers from the airport to the hotel and vice versa.
Besides the above the Golf Club will manage the total administration of the tournament from start to finish so that we can just enjoy ourselves. Not included in the above is the cost of staff tickets..

I am hoping to have a least 40 participants at the first try. Whilst hoping you find the above proposal attractive I look forward to receiving your feedback. We can then discuss the best way forward.

Thanks & regards

EGS edged out the Dubai Air Wing by a narrow margin of 3 points to clinch this years Chevron Challenge Match. This was the 16th Challenge Match. The Match was played at The Four Seasons Golf Course and finished with the closet score of all time. After careful conssideration the change in format to a Pairs Better Ball Stableford tournament turned out to be a good formular and well contested bringing the result right down to the final match. The EGS Team led by Chris van Zyl and partner Mike Woosley put up a great winning score of 42 points 19 on the front and 23 on the back. The victory was sealed when the final pair of Mark Spicer and Craig Mcbride starting on the 10 th tee came in with an equally impressive 42 points 21 on back and 21 on the front. Chris and Mike won the EK team prize on count back with 19 on the front nine and 23 on the back nine finishing with a net birdy on 17 and a birdy net eagle on 18. The best score in the Airwing team was 40 points won by Steve and Andrew who put up a great fight against Chris and Mike losing it on the 18th hole. Well done to the the EGS Team.

The Golf Society had their first event ever at the newly opened 9-hole Sharjah Golf Club and what a great addition to the UAE\'s golfing facilities this course is! Well worth a visit - if you didn\'t play - and competitive rates!

The winner of the day was David Moore with a very credible 36 points. Following closely behind were Ted Green (34 points) and Kader Tazerout (33 points). Nearest the pins were won by Will Lofberg and John Reavy. Congratulations to all!

David emerged winner scoring 35 points on a warm but pleasant afternoon shot gun start played at the Sharjah Golf and Shooting club. The course was in excellent condition and the greens played slow but true. Water on and around the course made for interesting club selections. David had a steady round failing to score on only one hole but made up for it with a good birdie on hole 2 plus net birdies on holes 5,11 and 18 which ensured the well earned victory. Second place went to Ted Green with 34 points followed by Kader Tazerout third on a count back with several other players. Nearest the Pin went to Will Loferg on hole 3 and John Reavy on hole 17 - well done to all winners and we look forward to seeing you all at the next event.

**UPDATE: The Resolution has now been passed.**

After careful consideration the committee would like to propose an amendment to the constitution of the Emirates Golf Society. The amendment falls within section 3b of the constitution \\\"Associate Memberships\\\" - we would like to offer the sponsors of large events in addition to the normal \\\"Sponsor Member\\\", three additional \\\"Associate Memberships\\\" during the course of the sponsorship. \r\nThis will be reviewed on an annual basis and where the sponsorship lapses, so will the related associate memberships.

\r\nThe Sponsored Golf days are fantastic events and make up for at least three great tournaments a season and we believe that this would be a great way of giving something back to the Sponsor. As this is an amendment to the constitution it requires a 51% \\\"yes\\\" vote for it to be passed. Therefore please raise your objections if you have any by 1500 on Thursday the 16th October 2008.\r\nPlease note: a \\\"no-reply\\\" assumes a \\\"yes\\\" vote.
