Committee Status and Proposals

\r\n\r\n

With Chris stepping down as Captain and Darryl resigning as Treasurer nominations were called for and seconded therefore the committee for this season is:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Captain: Iain Lachlan
  • \r\n
  • Treasurer, Fixtures and Vice Captain: Chris Van Zyl
  • \r\n
  • Secretary and Webmaster: Tim Collins

\r\n\r\n

Treasurers Report

\r\n\r\n

The society is in healthy financial position for the 2007/8 season.

\r\n\r\n

Although it was highlighted that golf expenses have increased significantly in Dubai, it was agreed to keep subscriptions at AED 200/- for this season.

\r\n\r\n

Events/Fixtures

\r\n\r\n

A number of events have been secured for this year, however, difficulties are being experienced due to course availability and cost. It was highlighted that there will be 4 sponsored events and 4 non-sponsored events.

\r\n\r\n

The Captain will arrange the sponsored overseas team event. Event will be arranged by the end of November; initial feedback was that it would be best to arrange for March 2008.

\r\n\r\n

Prizes

\r\n\r\n

All agreed that, aside from sponsors requests and the Club Championship, prizes will be in the form of vouchers.

\r\n\r\n

Social Events

\r\n\r\n

It was decided to provide a more personal event as previous organized events have not been very well subscribed. The new Captain kindly volunteered to host an end of year barbecue.

\r\n\r\n

Membership

\r\n\r\n

Membership is robust; currently 100 members are registered on the website (2 paid).

\r\n\r\n

Membership will continue to be open for Emirates Group staff and their spouse. Non-Emirates Group staff will no longer be able to join, although Grandfather Rights apply for current non-Group members.

\r\n\r\n

Sponsorship Status

\r\n\r\n

Sponsorships have been agreed with: Boeing, Airbus, Fedex and Emirates Flight Catering. Negotiations are currently in place with GE and Rockwell Collins.

\r\n\r\n

Any Other Business (AOB)

\r\n\r\n

Bob Atkins, in absentia, asked for a ruling regarding outstation staff and their ability to register for events. It was agreed that \r\n(a) outstation staff are welcome to join the Society and pay the registration fee and become full members, \r\nor; \r\n(b) register as a Guest by emailing the webmaster.

\r\n\r\n

NB: It was agreed that EK staff / spouse registered would have a higher priority than other Guests.

\r\n\r\n

In closing A special thanks to Darryl Atkins for his contribution to the society over the last few years.

  5. Iain Lachlan was voted as the new Captain of the Society.
  6. \r\n
  7. Tim Collins remained Secretary and Webmaster
  8. \r\n
  9. It was noted that tee slots are becoming increasingly difficult to get and that costs have increased substantially, however Chris highlighted that four sponsored events and four non-sponsored (EGS) events are planned this year.
  10. \r\n
  11. The membership fee to remain at AED 200/-.
  12. \r\n
  13. A social event will be planned this year around April 2008 exact details still to be decided.
  14. \r\n
\r\nThe full minutes will be posted in due course, but as can be seen, the main news is that Iain Lachlan has returned as Captain. Many thanks to Chris for last years stoic effort although, Chris does remain on the Committee as Fixtures Secretary and Treasurer. Also, we would like to offer Darryl Atkins our thanks for several years hard effort as Treasurer hopefully, youll now have more time to improve that swing!\r\n

Dear All:

Welcome to the new season - we hope you\'ve had a nice and relaxing summer and are all looking forward to the upcoming golfing calendar. For your information, we are still finalising dates and events with courses - this is obviously becoming increasingly difficult as golf becomes more popular in the region and, based on last years closure of Nad Al Sheba, there are fewer venues to utilise. However, we are hoping to have as many events this year as last year, so this is good news.

As you can see, we now have two events that you can register for: the AGM on the 2nd October and our season opener at Jebel Ali on the 6th October. Please feel free to register your interest in attending/playing on the registration form. We hope to see you there (please also remember to bring your 200AED membership fees also!).
