The Fedex Day was hosted at the Majlis and, was a Texas scramble. Fedex provided sponsorship of the event, which included golf, lunch on the clubhouse veranda and prizes that were presented by Frank Newman.
There was some very low scores being posted on the leaderboard and the winning team of Madhu Ramaswamy, Gregg Kerr and Vanessa North posted a very \'Tiiger-like\' round of 59.4! Not to be outdone, the runners-up (Brian and Mike from Fedex, Ian Pentz and Nigel Hopkins) scored an equally impressive 59.8... The team consisting of Franc Michaud, Trev Saunders and Nayeem Eqbal with a score of 61.4 came third.
Other winners on the day were for \'Nearest-the-Pin\': Pat Casserly, Kenneth S\'Souza, Phil Stuckle and Paul Nightingale all displayed pinpoint accuracy on the par threes and won the prizes!

The Boeing Day was hosted at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and, as in previous years, was a friendly Texas scramble. As always, Boeing were extremely generous in their sponsorship of the event providing both the actual golf, sumptuous lunch on the veranda and fantastic prizes presented by Ken Schulz (Sales Director - Boeing Airplanes) and Lee Monson (MEA Sales - Boeing Commercial Airplanes).
The competition was intense but the winning team consisting of Paul Nightingale, Hilda Wilson and Colin Disspain beat off the challenge of the second-placed team of Tim Collins, Tim Burnell, Dean Moss and Mark James in no small part to a hole-in-one by Paul Nightingale on the difficult 8th hole. Third place went to the team consisting of Amrith Kumar, Eric Smith, Bob Upham and Bob Everest.
Other winners on the day were the best placed \"Guest and Associated Members\" team consisting of David Hopkins, John Wilby, Sat Sembi and Amanda Young. Nearest the pin prizes were won by Bruce Pope and Mark Hopkins.

The Majlis course at the Emirates Golf Club was the venue for this years Emirates Flight Catering Club Championship and, as always, it was in beautiful condition. However, the scores reflected that it can also be a tough course to score well on, especially if your game is not up-to-scratch!!!
The Club Champion is awarded to the EK Group employee with the lowest gross score on the day of the event. This year the Championship was won in a thrilling battle by Paul Nightingale who, with a birdie-par finish, edged out the second-placed player, Iain Lachlan, by one shot with a score of 80. It was a cracking finish by Paul, especially as Iain had had the better of the front nine.
There were also other prizes on the day for the nett division: Chris van Zyl had the lowest, with a net score of 73. He was closely followed by Warren Panting (75), Eric Smith (76) and Nigel Hopkins (76). Finally, the Nearest-the-Pin prizes were won by Frank Michaud (5th), Warren Delf (7th), Anthony Liddell (12th) and Mark Spicer (15th).
As always, we would like to express our gratitude to Emirates Flight Catering who, as always, hosted this event with impeccable style! Thank-you.

As always, Airbus provided the backdrop to what is always a competitive feast of golf for the Society. This year, the event was held at the Desert Course in the Arabian Ranches and as is always the case at this links-style course, scoring proved difficult! Results on the day were extremely close and Nick Marriott and Eric Smith managed to sneak a win by winning on a countback from the two-man teams of Franck Michaud and Iain Lachlan (2nd ), and Bob Atkins and Jane Larsen (3rd) - all three teams finished on a level-par 72. The fourth-placed pairing of Craig McBride and Donna Tapp were one shot behind. Dean Moss, Craig McBride, Anthony Liddell and Nigel Hopkins completed the prizes by winning the four \"Nearest-the-Pin\" prizes.
Finally, many thanks to Airbus for their continued support to this event, which has become one of the highlights of the golfing calender.

With a game hotter than the weather on Friday, Chris van Zyl successfully started his new role as Captain by strolling home to victory in the Category \"A\" division (handicaps 0- 14) at our season opening Stableford event held at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa. Van Zyl \'s score of 37 points and a 3 point stableford victory over his nearest rival follows on the heels of his recent gross 71 in winning last months Emirates Golf Club medal.

Paul Nightingale was the runner-up in the Category \"A\" division with 34 points. Paul also managed to win the \"closest to the pin\" award on the 17th.

Category \"B\" (handicaps 15 and above) was more closely contested with Colin Disspain edging out Leo Fewtrell on a countback - both players had a commendable 31 points.

Eric Smith completed the awards list by winning the nearest the pin on the 2nd hole.

Firstly, thank you for all those who turned up - it is always much appreciated. Although there was much discussion, the main outcomes of the AGM which are pertinent to the membership are highlighted below:

  • Chris van Zyl was voted in as the new Captain. Other Committee members remained in the same positions.

  • The subs for the next year would remain fixed at 200 AED.

  • The fixture list is now 90% completed, with the first event being at Jebel Ali on the 6th October. It was noted that fixtures have been very difficult to complete due to the change in weekends. Furthermore, there have been price hikes by many of the clubs. (FYI - the first fixture is now available for registration, although we only have a maximum limit of 24 players..).

  • The Committee will investigate offering different prizes this year, although it was noted that sponsors often dictate what prizes are given on an event.

  • The prices for the Emirates Silver membership at Nad al Sheba have been increased to 5000 AED. Facilities and playing times/dates remain the same (which means that there are no morning slots for Fridays and Saturdays as part of the category, unfortunately). It was also highlighted that the membership to this category is now on a waiting list basis.

  • The sponsored overseas event was discussed and it was agreed that the Committee would immediately start planning the trip immediately for this season. (It was not agreed which trip would be sponsored).

  • It was discussed whether mid-week events could be accommodated in the new schedule. The Committee were to investigate the feasibility of providing such an event.
