A great turn out with 48 players comprising of members and their guests were all on time for the 07:30 shot gun start. The course, as usual, was in prime condition and the gentle breeze made for a great first nine but it was slightly warmer as the wind died off in the latter half of the second nine reminding us of the summer ahead.
David Loftus (38 points), Bruce Pope (34) and Warren Delf (33) took the first three places and were well pleased with their performances. Other winners on the day were Mark Spicer (NTP - 3rd), Mark Foster (NTP - 15th), Bob Upham (NTP 11th) and Marco Cartegan (NTP - 17th)

An EK team, consisting of Dr. Doug Ferguson, Kader Tazerout, Ted Green, Dr. James Spreadborough, Guenter Hirsch, Tim Collins and Chris Jolley represented Emirates in a recent inter-airline golfing trip at the world-renowned Ballybunion course in Southern Ireland. The event spanned three days, with the first day being a practice round for teams to acclimatise themselves to playing a links-style course on the most western tip of Ireland - fortunately, the Emirates team managed to bring the sunshine with them as, unusually, it did not rain or sleet a single time during the visit!
The first competition day consisted of a scratch 4-ball better ball format, and the highlight of the day was Tim Collins and James Spreadborough\'s level par round (the second best round of the day) helping the EK team to fourth placed overall, behind Icelandair, Air Lingus and Cargolux.
The second competitive day was a scratch singles stableford format, but unlike day one with calm sunny conditions, the teams had to cope with relatively high winds, a traditional feature of links-style courses which made scoring extremely difficult. However, this did not stop Guenter Hirsch scoring one of the best scores of the day - a creditable 9 over par. Unfortunately, his team mates did not fare as well in the difficult conditions and the team slipped four places to finish eighth overall.

(l-r) Iain Lachlan (Captain), Ted Green, Anthony Liddell, Greg Kerr, Eric Smith and Ken Schultz from Boeing
Boeing continued their immense support of Emirates Golf Society by hosting a fully-subscribed golf event at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. With massively subsidised golf and a tremendous variety of prizes - which included twelve golf clubs, 2 golf bags, two suit carriers and a host of miscellaneous gifts - it was, so far, the event of the year.
As in keeping with previous years, the format was a \"4-man\" Texas scramble and was, in the end, won comfortably by the team consisting of Ted Green, Anthony Liddell, Eric Smith and Greg Kerr with an extremely low score of 55.9. Each player received a Callaway Rescue Wood for their remarkable effort.
The second and third placed positions were far more hotly contested, with scores only being separated by a few tenths.... However, the team consisting of Iain Lachlan, Mike Woosley, Carl Brandenburg and Amanda Young managed to scrape the runners-up position, with a score of 59.2. Each received a Callaway 3 Wood. Closely following them were the third-placed team of Tim Burnell, Nick Marriott, Leo Fewtrell and Pat Casserly with a score of 60.7, each receiving a Callaway 5 Wood for their excellent efforts on the day.
There were also four (!) \"nearest-the-pin\" prizes. Bob Everest secured a Boeing/Callaway Travel Bag for his great effort on the 5th, as did Anthony Liddell on the 14th hole. Eric Smith was the beneficiary of a Boeing/Callaway headcover and balls for his shot on the 8th with Wayne Fu collecting a similar prize with his shot on the 16th. Just to round the day off, there was also a raffle for two Callaway/Boeing golf bags. Mike Woosley became a multiple winner when his name was drawn out of the hat, and John Reavy was the other lucky recepient.
Finally, we would like to thank Ken Schultz from Boeing for their great sponsorship of the event. It has now become the flagship of our golfing calendar!

(l-r) Mike Woosley, Sylvan Pinto, Eric Smith, Tim Collins, Iain Lachlan \r\n and Colin Disspain
The new Al Badia resort hosted this years Emirates Flight Catering \r\n Club Championship and the course certainly proved a tough nut to crack with \r\n few people scoring well a 15 was recorded on one hole!! \r\n
The main event on the day was the Club Championship, the \r\n Champion being the EK employee recording the lowest gross score. This year, \r\n a tight battle developed between Tim Collins, Iain Lachlan and Colin Disspain \r\n and the lead was exchanged many times during the day with Tim Collins eventually \r\n edging the win with a final score of 85, two shots better than the second-placed \r\n player Iain Lachlan, the reigning champion. Colin Disspain was a further \r\n shot adrift, finishing with a final score of 88.
The net division was even more hotly contested all \r\n three prizes going to players with a score of 72. Eric Smith, who is continuing \r\n his good form this season and won on a count back, beat off valiant efforts \r\n from both Sylvan Pinto (2nd) and Mike Woosley (3rd). Other prizes on the \r\n day, provided by Costa Coffee, were for Nearest the Pin on \r\n two of the par threes and were won by Tim Burnell and Amrith Kumar.
Finally, we would like to warmly thank Duncan Davies from our main sponsor, \r\n Emirates Flight Catering, who continue to provide great support for this \r\n annual event.

Hopefully the first of many pictorial golfing tips emailed to me by Bob Everest:

Bob \"ole one eye\" Everest and Chris \"Slim\" Pickens were paired at the Airbus Day. Whilst posting a creditable 36 points Bob wondered if they may have scored better if Slim had stood a little closer to his ball for some of the shots.....

A windy day at the Dubai Creek did not deter Dave Loftus and Maria Van Dooren from bringing home the spoils at the Airbus Day on Thursday with a magnificent score of 43 points. Following closely in second and third were the partnerships of Jason McDicken and Bruce Pope with 42 points and Anton Els and Kenneth D\'Souza with 41 points. Other prizes on the day were awarded to Bruce Pope (again!) for being closest to the 3rd hole in two shots, Darryl Atkins for nearest the pin on the 5th and Damien Bolton for being the closest to the pin on the tricky 14th. Well done to all and, again, many thanks to Adrian Hayes and his team from Airbus who continue to provide the Golf Society with a great day out!
Winners: Dave Loftus and Maria Van Dooren

2nd Place: Jason McDicken and Bruce Pope

3rd Place: Kenneth D\'Souza and Anton Els
