EKFC Winners

This year’s EKFC Club Championship was played in windy and sandy conditions though it don’t stop some players from producing great scores. In the gross division, John McGuinness continued his fine form in the Society by carding a 1-over par 73, which was 2-better than his nearest rivals Paul Nightingale and Dave Storey, with Paul winning on a count back.

The net division was one by Iain McGachie on 34 stableford points, one better than Paul Stump. In third place was Guillermo “Willy” Gallego, also continuing his good form.

Nearest-the-pins were won by Dave Storey (2), Darren Penhall (8), Mazen Qursha (11) and Ryan Kim (14).

We would just like to share the details of this year’s Passarola Cup. It is an annual event in Lisbon, Portugal and though we don’t officially send a team (or subsidise the trip), we have had several of our Society Members attend, all of whom have had glowing reviews… E.g. Paul Stump, Mazen Qursha - if you need more details!

\r\n\\\"OnAir\r\n
OnAir Winners
\r\n\r\n

The two OnAir Days produced some scintillating golf that culminated in a nail-biting finish. The first round of the OnAir event, played on the Fire course, was won by Guillermo (Willy) Gallego who had an impressive 39 points. He was closely followed by Iqbal Ismail (38 points), Rupendra Chhetri and Dean Moss (both on 36 points). All of these players would have fancied their chances going into the second round. However, anybody on 30 points or more were in the running if they had a good second round - Paul King (34), Brendon OConnor (34), Amrith Kumar (34), Paul Nightingale (33), to name a small handful!

\r\n\r\n

The scores were a little lower on the second day - the Earth course was baring its teeth with tricky pin positions and fast greens. However, Paul King played another impressive round to score 37 points - he was closely followed by John Parkinson (34 points) and Martin Mahoney (33 points).

\r\n\r\n

Unfortunately, the first round leaders stuttered on the second day and thus Paul King was able to claim the overall prize with an impressive combined score of 71 points. Well done Paul!

\r\n\r\n

We would like to take this time to thank Franck Michaud and Ian Dawkins from OnAir for sponsoring this fabulous event!

\r\n\\\"John\r\n
Airbus Winner
\r\n\r\n

John McGuinness played the best round of the year to win the Airbus trophy - a scratch golfer, he shot a gross 66 and win (relatively easily in the end!) with 42 stableford points. Simply awesome golf and congratulations to John.

\r\n\r\n

We also tried something different this year - every player was partnered with a professional golfer playing the Race to Dubai, and their net score (above or below par) was added to the contestants score. Therefore, if Lee Westwood scored 68, he would have contributed 4 points to his partners score. (The reverse was true if he had a score above 72!).

\r\n\r\n

Ian McGachie with his professional, scored 43 points, closely followed by Guillermo (Willy) Gallego on 42 points. (Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties or possibly a few amber nectars in the evening, the professionals names have since been forgotten)

\r\n\r\n

Again, the Airbus Day continues to be one of the highlights of the year and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Franois Congard and John Parkinson for their continued support.
