The Els Course provided superb conditions to mark our first \"Summer\" event - the greens were spectacular as were the fairways. Furthermore, with the new clubhouse now open, the afternoon start allowed players to watch their colleagues play in during the afternoon in a very pleasant setting - so, all in all, an excellent afternoon out.

Scoring on the day was more reasonable than the previous events - we played from the slightly longer tee boxes and together with the slick greens this made scoring more difficult. Thus, it was Peter Boylan with 34 points who won on the day closely followed by Tim Harford. Tim narrowly edged out Neil Bishop on a countback as they were both on 33 points.

Nearest the pins were won by John Parkinson (2nd), Paul Gingell (4th), Peter Perrett (11th) and Grant Kerr (17th). As it was a rolling start we still have some sleeves of balls for thos who didn\'t collect them on the day (Grant and Paul) and we will distribute the vouchers to the winners through internal mail.

Please note, F&B is NOT included in the price of Dhs 200, however you will be able to avail, at a cost of Dhs 125, a voucher for a meal and two drinks when you register at the Club on the day. As we will be finishing in the early evening we can’t think of many better places in Dubai to relax and eat than outside the new Els Club House.

\r\n\r\n

Also as it is a rolling start, we will see how many people are still around on whether we present the prizes on the day or not. Hopefully we will but we do understand it is a long time to wait if you are one of the early starters (an incentive to take the F&B voucher!!!).

We have decided to add a few more events to the calendar this Summer - though initially we had decided not to run events in July and August, we have negotiated a rate for The Track at Meydan where we will have one evening match (rolling tee times from 1700) per month from June to September - the exact dates are as follows:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Weds 12th June (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
  • Weds 17th July (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
  • Weds 21st August (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
  • Weds 18th September (tee times from from 1700)
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

These events will be priced at Dhs 150 for 18 holes.

\r\n\r\n

We have opened all these matches for registration so that we can gauge the interest and add/reduce slots if necessary.

\r\n\r\n

These matches are in addition to the following Summer dates:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Saturday 11th May at the Els
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 24th May at Tower Links
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 22nd June at the Creek
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 28th September at the Faldo
  • \r\n
  • **NEW**Friday 13th September at the Els
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

The Autumn/Winter schedule then follows with:

\r\n\r\n
    \r\n
  • Saturday 26th October - EKFC Club Championship at the Creek
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 9th November - Airbus Day at the Ranches
  • \r\n
  • Friday 6th December - OnAir Day 01 at the Earth
  • \r\n
  • Saturday 4th January - EGS New Year Scramble at the Ranches
  • \r\n
  • Friday 24th January - OnAir Day 02 at the Fire
  • \r\n
  • Friday 14th February - Boeing Day at the Earth
  • \r\n
  • March - Captains Day at Sharjah
  • \r\n
\r\n\r\n

These dates are all confirmed with the Golf Clubs (apart from the Captains Day in March 2014) and where possible, with the sponsors, though please bear in mind that there are always one or two additions and/or changes to the schedule.

\r\n\r\n

Just in case you are wondering. Though we do try and mix up the courses, there are some notable omissions in our calendar - e.g. Al Badia, the Montgomerie and the Majlis. Unfortunately, the former two dont allow Societies to play at weekends and the Majlis price has become too prohibitive (and also very difficult to get an appropriate slot). We also favour shotgun starts at our big sponsored events which further reduces the options - we would like to play the Els more, for example, but they dont allow shotgun starts at the weekends.

27/04/2013

There was another high scoring event at the Ranches on Friday with all the top three players having 40 points or more! The winner this week was Stephen Holl with an impressive (and handicap reducing…) 45 points! Five points adrift were Grant Kerr and Simon Hambleton, both on 40 points with Grant winning second place on a count back.

Nearest-the-pins were won by Amit Khandelwal (hole 2), Tim Collins (hole 7 and hole 12) and Andrew Walters (hole 17).

25/04/2013

The draw for Friday\\\'s event at the Arabian Ranches is as follows:

\r\n\r\n

\r\n07:40 (10th): TimHarford, SimonMackenzie, StephenHoll, Chris Patt

\r\n\r\n

As indicated earlier, price for EGS Members is Dhs 200, Guests is Dhs 300. The format s an individual stableford.

02/04/2013

It was a complicated day on Friday at Sharjah with lots of little competitions going on - an individual stableford, beat the committee and the pink ball challenge!

Beat the Committee: fortunately for the Committee team, we came out even as half the teams beat our score of 128 points and the other half didn’t. Therefore, for those who did, Paul has your Dhs 40 waiting for you - just grab him at the next event!

Pink Ball Challenge: Only three teams were able to bring their pink ball back (and, we would like to mention that the Committee were one of them). All three teams were put in a draw and the winning team of Ted Green, Amanda Young, Craig Williams and Kevin Creane each won a voucher for the Jumeirah Golf Estates worth Dhs 900!

Individual stableford: Trent Kenagy played the game of his life to win by amassing (an unheard of) 45 points! The handicap committee will be reviewing! ;). Second-place went to Amaldev Abaraham who is on a winning streak at the moment - he scored 42 points. Paul King came third with 39 points, a score that would normally be a winning card!

Finally, other prizes went to Anthony Gilliam (Longest Drive 4/13 and NTP 8/17), Tim Harford (Longest Drive 7/16) and Amaldev Abraham (NTP 3/12).

27/03/2013

The draw for this week\\\'s event is as shown below:

\r\n\r\n

1: SteveAllen, PaulNightingale, TimCollins, IainLachlan
\r\n2: DeanMoss, PeterBoylan, SimonChaffey, AntonyGilliam
\r\n3: TimHarford, Chris Patt, StephenHoll, JamesWalters
\r\n4: UltanKenny, PaulKing, MateaNesek, KrisEllingsen
\r\n5: GaryHansford, RosieHansford, JannieEbersohn, TrentKenagy
\r\n6: GeraintIsitt, IanTaylor, SimonHambleton, MazenQursha
\r\n7: LukeGregori, MartinTaylor, AmrithKumar, MadhuRamaswamy
\r\n8: AmaldevAbraham, PaulGingell, PaulStump, KerryRoss
\r\n9: KevinCreane, CraigWilliams, RupendraChhetri, TedGreen

\r\n\r\n

In terms of the format of the event:

\r\n\r\n

Firstly, there is an individual stableford - prizes are available for the top three as usual. Handicaps will be based on your Society or EGF (course) handicap, whichever is higher. We will be playing from the white/yellow tees.

\r\n\r\n

There are also two Captain\\\'s Challenges.

\r\n\r\n

Game 1: \\\"The Captains Balls\\\" - Each 4-ball will be given a coloured ball which they must use on a rotational basis hole by hole. E.g player 1 uses on hole 1, player 2 on hole 2, player 3 on hole 3, player 4 on hole 4 then player 1 on hole 5 etc.). Once the rotation is set you are not allowed to change the order. Each team member from the team which returns the ball (ie. doesnt lose it!) at the end of the round will be put into a prize draw for a free round of golf at Jumeirah Golf Estates worth Dhs 900!

\r\n\r\n

Game 2: \\\"Beat the Committee\\\" - Each player in the 4-ball teams has been automatically entered into this event by paying an additional fee of Dhs 20 in their entrance charge. If the 4-ball team\\\'s aggregate stableford score (all four scores added together) beat the Committee\\\'s four score tally, you double your money (therefore, each player will be given Dhs 40 by a Committee Member)! If you are equal or less then the Committee\\\'s score you lose the money... The Committee team comprises of Steve Allen, Paul Nightingale, Tim Collins and our ex-Captain, Iain Lachlan. Good luck!

\r\n\r\n

Note, you need to be present at the prize ceremony to claim any prizes and challenges.
